When you give a task to a coding agent from the Atlan desktop app, such as Claude Code or Codex, the agent works in a session. Atlan tells you each time the agent finishes or fails the task you gave it, so you don’t have to keep the session on screen. The session stays open for your next task.

When Atlan tells you

Atlan tells you only if no screen in Atlan is showing the session when the agent finishes. If a screen is showing it, you see the result there, and no notice appears. If the session is still on screen when you switch to another app, you get no notification: leave its page first. There is no notice for a task you stop yourself.

What the notice says

The notice names the agent and how the task ended. A finished notice inside Atlan closes on its own. A failed notice stays until you close it. If you give the session another task, the notice for that one replaces the earlier one.

System notifications

Agent sessions run only in the desktop app. A long failure reason is shortened in the system notification. On macOS:
  • macOS asks whether to allow notifications from Atlan. Atlan itself shows no permission prompt. If you don’t allow them, you still get the notice inside Atlan.
  • Selecting the notification brings Atlan to the front. It doesn’t open the session.
