# Create an artifact

> Create one JSON-backed Registry artifact.

Use `registry__create_artifact` to create one artifact whose content fits in
JSON metadata.

* Required inputs: `kind` and `metadata`.
* Required metadata: `name`, `workspace_id`, and the selected kind's required fields.
* Optional inputs: `session_id` and Gateway's `rationale`.
* Effect: write; not idempotent.

Call `registry__get_kind_schema` first. Use `skill__create` for Skills. For
file bytes, reserve an upload with `file__request_upload` and create the File
with the returned `upload_key`.
