# Create and relate an artifact

> Create an artifact and relate it to an existing artifact.

Use `registry__create_artifact_linked` when a new artifact belongs beside an
existing one.

* Required inputs: `kind`, `metadata`, `subject_id`, and `rel_type`.
* Optional inputs: `attributes`, `session_id`, and Gateway's `rationale`.
* Effect: two writes; not idempotent.

If creation succeeds but the relationship fails, keep the returned new handle
and repair the relationship with `registry__relate_artifact`. Calling this
tool again would create another artifact.
