# Release a skill

> Release a skill's saved version from the desktop app, then withdraw or roll back if you need to.

Release a saved version of a skill from the desktop app, so the people using it
get your changes. You need to be the skill's owner or a workspace admin. In a
workspace set to **Auto release**, each saved version is released once its
security checks pass, unless the workspace lets a save skip releasing and the
save asked to; release such a version from **Release a version** in the
skill's ⋯ menu.

## Release a new version

1. Open the skill and choose **Source**.
2. In the **Versions** box, find the newest version. It carries a **Release**
button once its security checks pass and the workspace is set to **Manual
   release**.
3. Select **Release**. The dialog names the version it will publish.
4. Review the **Release notes (optional)**. They are drafted from the file
changes, so add why they were made.
5. Select **Publish v*N*** (the button names the version).

You can also choose **Release a version** from the skill's ⋯ menu to release
the version open in **Source**.

## Withdraw or roll back

Open the menu beside the **Live** version and choose **Roll back to** the
release before it. If nothing was released before it, the menu offers **Withdraw release** instead, and Latest then serves nothing for the skill. For a release still waiting on review, open the menu beside
its version and choose **Withdraw queued release**.

## Set how your workspace releases

Whether a saved version ships on its own or waits for someone to release it is
the workspace's release policy, which a workspace admin sets. See [Set a
workspace release policy](/administer/workspaces/how-tos/set-release-policy).
