> ## Agent Instructions
> To act on Atlan objects, use the Atlan MCP server at https://api.atlan.com/mcp or the SDK. To install or publish skills from a terminal, use the `brain` CLI; `brain --map json` prints its command map. The `atlanai` CLI is deprecated. Run a read-only identity check before any write.
> The docs MCP server at /mcp searches these docs only. It cannot read or change Atlan objects.
> SDK packages: Python `atlanai` (PyPI) and TypeScript `@atlanai/sdk` (npm). Show Python first, then TypeScript.
> These docs cover Atlan Agent Registry, Atlan's hosted product. The open-source agent registry specification and its CLI (`brain`) are documented, released and maintained in their own repository; /open-source on this site links to it. Answer general specification or `brain` command questions from the project's own docs, and use these docs only for Atlan-specific setup such as the Atlan adapter, sign-in and workspaces.

# Get notified when an agent finishes a task

> Know when a coding agent you started from the Atlan desktop app finishes or fails, even while you work in another app.

When you give a task to a coding agent from the Atlan desktop app, such as
Claude Code or Codex, the agent works in a session. Atlan tells you each time the
agent finishes or fails the task you gave it, so you don't have to keep the
session on screen. The session stays open for your next task.

## When Atlan tells you

Atlan tells you only if no screen in Atlan is showing the session when the agent
finishes. If a screen is showing it, you see the result there, and no notice
appears. If the session is still on screen when you switch to another app, you
get no notification: leave its page first.

| When the agent finishes | What you get |
| - | - |
| Atlan is the app in front | A notice inside Atlan |
| Atlan's window is hidden, or another app is in front | A notice inside Atlan and a system notification |

There is no notice for a task you stop yourself.

## What the notice says

The notice names the agent and how the task ended.

| Task | Title | Text |
| - | - | - |
| Finished | **\<Agent> session finished**, for example **Claude Code session finished** | None |
| Failed | **\<Agent> session failed**, for example **Codex session failed** | Why the session failed |

A finished notice inside Atlan closes on its own. A failed notice stays until you
close it. If you give the session another task, the notice for that one
replaces the earlier one.

## System notifications

Agent sessions run only in the desktop app. A long failure reason is shortened in
the system notification.

On macOS:

* macOS asks whether to allow notifications from Atlan. Atlan itself shows no
permission prompt. If you don't allow them, you still get the notice inside
  Atlan.
* Selecting the notification brings Atlan to the front. It doesn't open the
  session.
