# Organize skills

> See how global and shared skills are organized across workspaces.

Atlan keeps skills close to their source and audience. You do not need to build
a workspace hierarchy before installing the desktop app.

## Global skills

Skills installed globally for Claude Code or Codex land in your personal
workspace. This includes skills from third-party Claude Code plugins. Atlan
keeps the skill's source and imports its supported package files, not only
`SKILL.md`.

## Shared skills

Put a skill in a shared workspace when a team needs to find, review, or maintain
the same registry copy. A shared workspace can contain skills from several
sources when they serve the same team.

For example, a Platform workspace might contain both a deployment skill and an
incident-review skill. The shared workspace groups them by who maintains them,
while each skill retains its source.

## Keep the structure small

Use one workspace when the same people own and use the skills. Add a child
workspace only when a team needs a different owner, membership list, or
access boundary.

Workspace creation and hierarchy changes belong in Administration. See
[Manage workspaces](/admin/workspaces) for those procedures.
