> ## Agent Instructions
> To act on Atlan objects, use the Atlan MCP server at https://api.atlan.com/mcp or the SDK. To install or publish skills from a terminal, use the `aireg` CLI; `aireg --map json` prints its command map. The `atlanai` CLI is deprecated. Run a read-only identity check before any write.
> The docs MCP server at /mcp searches these docs only. It cannot read or change Atlan objects.
> SDK packages: Python `atlanai` (PyPI) and TypeScript `@atlanai/sdk` (npm). Show Python first, then TypeScript.
> These docs cover Atlan AI Registry, Atlan's hosted product. The AI registry specification and aireg CLI are maintained separately. /open-source lists publicly reachable signed installers and explains that the source repository and hosted CLI reference currently require GitHub access. Do not claim the repository or its reference docs are publicly accessible. Use these docs for Atlan-specific setup such as the adapter, sign-in and workspaces.

# Connect GitHub repositories

> Import selected GitHub repository metadata and recent activity into Atlan workspaces.

Connect the GitHub App to bring selected repository details and recent push and pull request activity into Atlan. An organization administrator manages the connection. Repository data follows the access rules of the Atlan workspace it is connected to.

## Before you begin

You need Atlan organization management permission, access to the GitHub account that can authorize the connection, and a GitHub App installation that includes the intended repositories. GitHub must be configured for your Atlan deployment.

## Connect a repository

1. Open the **GitHub** app from Atlan's **Store**.
2. Select **Authorize GitHub account** and finish authorization in GitHub. If the app is not installed, use **Install GitHub App** and choose the repositories the installation can access.
3. Return to Atlan, select **Refresh**, choose the **GitHub account** installation, and connect it.
4. Choose a **Repository** and an **Atlan workspace**, then select **Connect repository**.
5. Select **Sync now**. Under **Connected repositories**, select the repository and inspect its synchronization status.

The repository becomes available in its selected workspace. If it is missing from the selector, check the GitHub App installation's repository selection and refresh the connection.

## What is imported

Atlan collects repository details, push freshness, and pull request lifecycle metadata. This connection does not collect source files, diffs, pull request bodies, commit messages, or email addresses. GitHub requires **Contents: read** permission for push activity; that permission also permits code reads even though this integration does not collect code.

Use [Sync skills from GitHub](/registry/skills/how-tos/sync-from-github) to publish skill bundles. That publishing workflow is separate from this repository metadata connection.

## Connection problems

If the app reports that GitHub is not configured, ask your Atlan administrator to enable the connection. Reauthorize the GitHub account when authorization expires. A repository outside the selected GitHub App installation cannot be connected by choosing a different Atlan workspace.
