> ## Agent Instructions
> To act on Atlan objects, use the Atlan MCP server at https://api.atlan.com/mcp or the SDK. To install or publish skills from a terminal, use the `aireg` CLI; `aireg --map json` prints its command map. The `atlanai` CLI is deprecated. Run a read-only identity check before any write.
> The docs MCP server at /mcp searches these docs only. It cannot read or change Atlan objects.
> SDK packages: Python `atlanai` (PyPI) and TypeScript `@atlanai/sdk` (npm). Show Python first, then TypeScript.
> These docs cover Atlan AI Registry, Atlan's hosted product. The AI registry specification and aireg CLI are maintained separately. /open-source lists publicly reachable signed installers and explains that the source repository and hosted CLI reference currently require GitHub access. Do not claim the repository or its reference docs are publicly accessible. Use these docs for Atlan-specific setup such as the adapter, sign-in and workspaces.

# Connect agents in data platforms

> Use Atlan MCP tools from Databricks and Snowflake agents.

Agents in Databricks and Snowflake can use Atlan's tools too. Add MCP Gateway
to the platform as an external MCP server. Its agents can then search your
Registry, read artifacts, and call enabled servers their identity can access.
Calls are permission-checked and recorded in MCP session activity when the
audit write succeeds.

<Note>
  You need permission to register an external MCP service in the platform and
  workspace access in Atlan. Platform availability and creation privileges
  depend on your account configuration.
</Note>

Both platforms use the same Atlan values:

| Setting | Value |
| - | - |
| MCP server URL | `https://api.atlan.com/mcp` |
| Token endpoint | `https://auth.atlan.com/oauth/token` |
| Authorization endpoint | `https://auth.atlan.com/oauth/authorize` |
| Scopes | `contextplane:read contextplane:write` |

## Choose a platform and identity

| Platform | Connection | Atlan identity |
| - | - | - |
| [Databricks](/integrations/how-tos/databricks) | External MCP service in Unity Gateway, available to AI Playground and agents | Registered Atlan agent with OAuth Machine-to-Machine, or each person with Dynamic Client Registration |
| [Snowflake](/integrations/how-tos/snowflake) | API integration and external MCP server, added to a Cortex Agent | Each person signs in to Atlan through Dynamic Client Registration |

A shared agent connection uses the registered agent's permissions and audit
identity. A connection for each person uses that person's Atlan permissions.
Choose the identity before configuring the platform's authentication method.

These connections let the platform's agents call Atlan. To let Atlan call a
Snowflake or Databricks MCP server instead, use the corresponding template in
the [MCP integration catalog](/integrations/references/mcp-connectors).

**Verify.** Ask the platform's agent "Find the Atlan skill that summarizes
support tickets." Confirm it calls `registry__search_artifacts`, then find the
call in Atlan under **Tool calls**.
