> ## Agent Instructions
> To act on Atlan objects, use the Atlan MCP server at https://api.atlan.com/mcp or the SDK. To install or publish skills from a terminal, use the `aireg` CLI; `aireg --map json` prints its command map. The `atlanai` CLI is deprecated. Run a read-only identity check before any write.
> The docs MCP server at /mcp searches these docs only. It cannot read or change Atlan objects.
> SDK packages: Python `atlanai` (PyPI) and TypeScript `@atlanai/sdk` (npm). Show Python first, then TypeScript.
> These docs cover Atlan AI Registry, Atlan's hosted product. The AI registry specification and aireg CLI are maintained separately. /open-source lists publicly reachable signed installers and explains that the source repository and hosted CLI reference currently require GitHub access. Do not claim the repository or its reference docs are publicly accessible. Use these docs for Atlan-specific setup such as the adapter, sign-in and workspaces.

# Use AI Registry in your browser

> Open AI Registry at app.atlan.com, sign in, and learn what the web app does and when you need Atlan Desktop.

AI Registry runs in your browser at [app.atlan.com](https://app.atlan.com). You
don't need to install anything to find and share skills, review agents and their
runs, use Metrics Studio and Ontology, or manage your organization. Install
[Atlan Desktop](/desktop/install) only for the work that needs your computer,
such as bringing in the skills and sessions already on it.

## Before you begin

Before you start, make sure you have an organization account. Ask your admin to
invite you if you don't have one.

## Sign in and find your work

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the web app">
    Go to [app.atlan.com](https://app.atlan.com) and sign in with your
    organization account. If your organization requires company SSO, you sign
    in through your identity provider.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find your workspaces">
    Your personal workspace and the team workspaces you belong to are listed in
    the app. Open a workspace to see its skills and agents.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Bring in skills without Desktop">
    The web app can't read the skills on your computer. To publish a team's
    skills without Atlan Desktop, keep them in a GitHub repository and publish
    them from GitHub Actions. See [Sync skills from GitHub](/registry/skills/how-tos/sync-from-github).
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What needs Atlan Desktop

The web app and Atlan Desktop share the same account, workspaces, and records.
Desktop adds the features that need access to your computer:

| Feature | Web app | Atlan Desktop |
| - | - | - |
| Skills, agents, workspaces, and settings | Yes | Yes |
| Sessions, traces, evals, and usage | Yes | Yes |
| Metrics Studio and Ontology | Yes | Yes |
| Share links to a record | Yes | Yes |
| Import skills from your computer | No | Yes |
| Run local coding agents, such as Claude Code or Codex, from the app | No | Yes |
| Ask AI agent bar | No; opens the page in Atlan Desktop | Yes |
| Call integration tools from a work session | No | Yes |
| First-run onboarding | No | Yes |

Sessions from coding agents on your computer reach AI Registry the same way
whichever app you use: through Atlan Desktop, the
[Claude Code trace plugin](/plugins/how-tos/managed-installation), or the
[atlanai SDK](/tools/sdk/tutorials/quickstart).

## Next steps

* [Coding clients](/clients/index): use your workspace's skills and Atlan's tools from Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or VS Code.
* [Trace your first agent run](/tools/sdk/tutorials/quickstart): send one run from your agent, then open its trace in the web app.
