# Install the desktop app

> Download and install Atlan on macOS or Windows.

The Atlan desktop app keeps the skills on your computer in sync with your
organization. Choose your operating system below.

If your company manages your device, Atlan may already be installed. Open the
app and [sign in](#sign-in).

## macOS

Requires macOS 13 or later.

1. Download **macOS (.dmg)** from the
   [Atlan downloads page](https://releases.atlan.com).
2. Open the downloaded `Atlan_<version>_universal.dmg`.
3. Drag Atlan to **Applications**.
4. Open Atlan from Applications.

### Allow Full Disk Access

Atlan needs Full Disk Access to find and sync skill files anywhere in your
home folder. When prompted, select **Open System Settings**, turn on Atlan
under **Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access**, then return to the app.

  On a managed Mac, your IT team can install Atlan and grant this permission
  for you. See [Deploy with MDM](/admin/desktop-deployment/index).

## Windows

Requires Windows 10 or later.

1. Download **Windows Setup (.exe)** from the
   [Atlan downloads page](https://releases.atlan.com).
2. Run `Atlan_<version>_x64-setup.exe`.
3. Follow the setup prompts.
4. Open Atlan from the Start menu.

Windows does not require the Full Disk Access step used on macOS.

## Sign in

Sign in with your organization account. Atlan finishes setup and begins
syncing your skills.

The app checks for updates automatically. On managed Macs, your IT team may
control when updates are installed.
