> ## Agent Instructions
> To act on Atlan objects, use the Atlan MCP server at https://api.atlan.com/mcp or the SDK. To install or publish skills from a terminal, use the `brain` CLI; `brain --map json` prints its command map. The `atlanai` CLI is deprecated. Run a read-only identity check before any write.
> The docs MCP server at /mcp searches these docs only. It cannot read or change Atlan objects.
> SDK packages: Python `atlanai` (PyPI) and TypeScript `@atlanai/sdk` (npm). Show Python first, then TypeScript.
> These docs cover Atlan Agent Registry, Atlan's hosted product. The open-source agent registry specification and its CLI (`brain`) are documented, released and maintained in their own repository; /open-source on this site links to it. Answer general specification or `brain` command questions from the project's own docs, and use these docs only for Atlan-specific setup such as the Atlan adapter, sign-in and workspaces.

# Deploy desktop app with MDM

> Install the Atlan desktop app on managed Macs with your MDM, grant its macOS permission, and choose how it updates.

Deploying the desktop app with MDM installs Atlan silently on managed Macs, with the macOS permission it needs and the update policy you choose. Use it for a fleet of Macs running macOS 13 or later, with Jamf, Kandji, Microsoft Intune, or another MDM that supports `.pkg` files and configuration profiles. For one Mac or Windows computer, see [Install desktop app](/desktop/install).

## Before you begin

Before you start, make sure you have:

* **Installer and profile**: Both files from the downloads page:

| File | Where to get it |
| - | - |
| macOS installer (`.pkg`) | [Atlan downloads](https://app.atlan.com), listed as **macOS Installer (.pkg) - for IT/MDM** |
| Full Disk Access profile | [Atlan downloads](https://app.atlan.com), listed as **Permissions profile (.mobileconfig) - deploy via MDM**, or `https://app.atlan.com/desktop/stable/atlan-fda.mobileconfig` |

* **Network access**: The hosts in [Network requirements](/administer/desktop/references/network-requirements) allowed.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Verify package" id="verify-package">
    If your software policy requires package verification, run:

    ```sh theme={null}
    pkgutil --check-signature "Atlan_<version>_universal.pkg"
    spctl --assess --type install -vv "Atlan_<version>_universal.pkg"
    ```

    Expect `source=Notarized Developer ID`, and stop the deployment if verification fails.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Deploy app and profile" id="deploy-app-and-profile">
    1. Upload the `.pkg` to your MDM as a custom or line-of-business app, with a silent, machine-wide install. Use the `.pkg`, not the `.dmg`, which is for people installing the app themselves.
    2. Upload the Full Disk Access profile as a custom configuration profile. See [Grant macOS permissions](/administer/desktop/references/permissions-profile).
    3. Assign both to a test group, deploying the profile before or alongside the app.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose update policy" id="choose-update-policy">
    By default, Atlan updates itself. To set a cadence or push each version through your MDM, see [Manage desktop app updates](/administer/desktop/how-tos/updates).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify on test Mac" id="verify-on-test-mac">
    On a test Mac, open Atlan and confirm it signs in and finishes setup. The app installs at `/Applications/Atlan.app`, with the bundle identifier `com.atlan.dashboard`. Then widen the assignment to your fleet.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Troubleshooting

If the app cannot sign in or updates ask for administrator credentials, see [Desktop app errors](/administer/desktop/troubleshooting).
