> ## Agent Instructions
> To act on Atlan objects, use the Atlan MCP server at https://api.atlan.com/mcp or the SDK. To install or publish skills from a terminal, use the `brain` CLI; `brain --map json` prints its command map. The `atlanai` CLI is deprecated. Run a read-only identity check before any write.
> The docs MCP server at /mcp searches these docs only. It cannot read or change Atlan objects.
> SDK packages: Python `atlanai` (PyPI) and TypeScript `@atlanai/sdk` (npm). Show Python first, then TypeScript.
> These docs cover Atlan Agent Registry, Atlan's hosted product. The open-source agent registry specification and its CLI (`brain`) are documented, released and maintained in their own repository; /open-source on this site links to it. Answer general specification or `brain` command questions from the project's own docs, and use these docs only for Atlan-specific setup such as the Atlan adapter, sign-in and workspaces.

# Administer Atlan

> Manage organization members, workspaces and their release policies, desktop app deployment, and the rates that price agent runs.

Administering Atlan means deciding who can reach what, how changes ship, and how the app reaches people's machines. Most of it happens in **Settings**, and much of it needs the organization **Admin** role.

```text theme={null}
organization (members, roles, rates) → workspaces (members, release policy) → devices (desktop app)
```

## Areas compared

| Area | You control | Start at |

| **Workspaces** | Who can reach each workspace, their workspace roles, and how its changes ship | [Manage workspace members](/administer/workspaces/how-tos/manage-members) |
| **Desktop app** | How Atlan is installed, updated, and removed on managed devices | [Deploy desktop app with MDM](/administer/desktop/how-tos/deploy-with-mdm) |
| **Models & rates** | The rates that price agent runs | [Set model rates](/admin/finops/models-and-rates) |

## Choose where to start

| Need | Start at |
| - | - |
| Compare organization and workspace roles | [Organization roles](/administer/users/references/roles), [Roles and access](/administer/workspaces/references/roles-and-access) |
| Retire a workspace | [Archive workspace](/administer/workspaces/how-tos/delete-workspace) |
| Fix someone who cannot see a workspace | [Workspace access errors](/administer/workspaces/troubleshooting/workspace-access-errors) |
| Fix desktop sign-in or update problems | [Desktop app errors](/administer/desktop/troubleshooting) |

<Note>
  Admin actions change access for other people. Grant the organization **Admin** role only to people who manage organization-wide access or settings, keep at least one other admin, and remember that removing a member does not end their access until your identity provider stops issuing them tokens.
